CMS Contingency Plan Modified
By:
, Compliance Officer
On February 27, 2004 CMS told fiscal intermediaries and carriers to extend their payment cycle for non-HIPAA compliant claims from 14 to 28 days. The CMS contingency plan had allowed providers to continue to submit electronic claims in legacy formats while they completed their implementation and testing efforts. The new rule will begin being enforced on July 6, 2004 and will apply to claims received on or after July 1, 2004.
More information is available on CMS's new Medlearn Matters: Information for Medicare Providers site.
