HARP/Windows Vista Compatibility

By:  Vice President, Quadax, Inc.

Because the HARP application itself does not run in a Windows desktop environment, it is not directly affected by Microsoft’s release of the Windows Vista™ operating system. However, several Windows-based third party products (listed below) are used to access HARP and its data. Quadax has performed testing on these products using the Microsoft Vista Business Edition and found no significant issues. Attention was given to particular features of these products that are utilized by HARP.

Should you encounter any compatibility issues accessing HARP with these products, Quadax will be glad to work with you and the software vendor to solve the issue. Before contacting the Quadax support team for help with a PC with the Windows Vista operating system:

  • Check to see that other programs function properly on the PC. Try opening and running an installed application, like Microsoft Word or Outlook.
  • Verify that you are able to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer 7, and then try to open a Web page, like www.google.com.
  • If you had difficulties with either of these steps, resolve the problem before attempting to log on to the ASP Portal and connecting to HARP.

The following is some information pertaining to the products used with HARP and the versions tested.

AttachmateWRQ Reflection for HP

Reflection for HP terminal emulation software connects Windows users to HARP on both HPe3000 and HP9000 hosts. Earlier this year AttachmateWRQ released Reflection for HP version 14.0 Service Pack 2.  This version is supported on the Windows Vista platform and meets the requirements of the “Works with Windows Vista" logo specification. However, Microsoft made a considerable effort to make Windows Vista backward compatible, meaning that most applications developed prior to Windows Vista will still work. Quadax tested Reflection for HP version 14.0 as is currently being sold without installing Service Pack 2, and no issues were found. Tests were done with both a serial and a network connection. Users needing to purchase Reflection will be able to use the current version with Windows Vista.

AttachmateWRQ Reflection for the Web

Reflection for the Web terminal emulation software connects browser users to HARP on both HPe3000 and HP9000 hosts. Because Windows Vista ships with Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and Sun Java version 1.6, also referred to as version 6,  testing of previous versions of IE and Java was not performed.  No significant issues were found.

Internet Explorer

External HARP users reach the HARP application by first logging in to the Quadax ASP Portal, and some also view and/or download reports using Adobe Reader. These features have been tested with Internet Explorer 7, which is shipped with Windows Vista. No problems were found.
