Sue Langsdale Retires from Quadax
Sue Langsdale began her career as a teacher. Her hunger for learning was evident in the motto she adopted to learn something new every day. It was that hunger that propelled her up the corporate ladder to success at Quadax. Her various roles throughout her 18 years at Quadax included call center representative, HARP production, application support, liaison with Quadax’s Columbus and Dayton offices, manager at the Buffalo office, and, in recent years, manager at the Norwalk office. Her contributions were recognized many years ago when she became one of the original Quadax Partners.
Always up for a challenge, Sue endured the rigors of management. At times this meant long hours, small work spaces, and moves to different cities, but the rewards were lifelong friendships. Loving her employees as her own children, she celebrated their successes and grieved their losses. With the family-like atmosphere she created, her employees became family to each another. Setting aside differences and working together for a common purpose would be a hallmark of her management style. Even when Sue’s “feathers were ruffled,” she addressed a problem with professionalism and a calm confidence. The respect she showed her staff when dealing with employee or office issues resulted in positive responses and actions from them; those who worked for her were motivated to do their best. But Sue also knew when to have fun—the Norwalk staff will never forget her showing up for work as Cruella de Vil one Halloween!
Sue’s career came full circle when she returned to the Quadax main office this summer to help develop our new employee training program. (See the Investing in Training, Investing in Quality article in this issue.) With retirement fast approaching, she was still eager to undertake yet another challenge. Her experience with lesson plans and teaching methods proved invaluable in the program design and implementation. Returning to the classroom after so many years was another highlight in her impressive career. In retirement, Sue plans to join her husband Don (who retired from Quadax last winter) for trips to the Caribbean islands and to spend time with her beloved grandchildren.
It has been said that behind every excellent employee is an excellent manager. Sue Langsdale was a testament to this idea, and the lessons she taught her employees will have a lasting impact on their lives.
